Lovely light premises occupying a former printing museum on Cockermouth main street. We are situated in a lovely historic area of the town right next door to the birthplace of William Wordsworth

I was taught how to stitch when very young, by my mam who was a dressmaker. My grandmother was also a lacemaker, I’m from a family of creatives.
I taught fashion and creative textiles at BA and MA level, leading the Contemporary Applied Arts course at the University of Cumbria for many years. I love to customise, handstitch and create hats and sculptural textiles.
I am fascinated by the meaning behind the creative process and art journaling. When I’m not stitching, I’m often Tango dancing.
MA and BA Hons.
Contemporary Applied Arts. PGCE
I started to stitch when my children (now adults) started school, studying Contemporary Applied Arts at University of Cumbria. I spent several years teaching in secondary education alongside developing my own business.
My work is a quirky interpretation of our surroundings, with a bit of a bird theme running through it. I use the sewing machine as my drawing tool to create applique and free-machine embroidered images which I develop into ranges of homeware, accessories and unique 3d pieces, exhibited across the UK. I’m a hoarder of buttons and fabrics and can spend hours hunting out just the right tiny piece for a particular detail . I like to have fun with my work and I hope it shows through.
